Cost Per Action – What is it???
When I first started out in internet & affiliate marketing many years ago, I learnt various things which include the fact that I have to sell something before getting commission as profit for marketing products. Most times, the products are purely digital, e.g. E-books, Soft wares or digital services. I would promote products on click bank and Pay dotcom with a view to getting commission as high as 70% of entire sale of such products. I also learnt a lot about Google Ad words and other
Pay per Click formulas that an individual can use to promote product online. While I was very successful with Affiliate marketing + Google Ad words in my early days, I noticed that quite a lot of other individuals were not. From interviews and research, I discovered that there are few factors that individuals have complained about that are responsible for it and I’ll highlight them below;
1. Selling Is Hard: While I consider this a myth, some people take it as facts. I once got into a job that involves having to sell from Door to Door…and I can tell you it’s harder than selling over the internet. Irrespective, selling on the internet requires skills and quite a lot of internet business wannabes don’t have a clue how to go about it.
2. PPC is costly: I admit that this is true, especially with Google Ad words, and imagine selling a product with keywords that cost as much as $0.50 per click in advertising. It simply means that for every click on your advert, you are charged $0.50 and most times, affiliate only gets as much as 2% conversion. That means that for every 100 clicks, only two individuals purchase your product. With a bit of mathematics;
$0.50 x 100 clicks = $50. You need a product that sells at a high price before you can make profit. Let’s say your product is sold at $50 and you sold two copies, then you are in sale of $100. That’s a nice
$50 if you minus your advertising cost. However, not many affiliates are able to have this kind of result.
3. it’s hard to learn the process: Buying E-books, Systems & software’s is not a guarantee for success with internet business. It takes testing & testing before you get the right method of promoting affiliate marketing programs. Not many individuals can go through this stress whatsoever.

What Are CPA Offers
CPA means cost per action, where a user fills out a form or downloads software from an advertiser. These forms can range from submitting a single email (for laptop offers) to longer forms like Insurance or payday loan forms. Software’s that could be downloaded also can range from trial versions to screen savers, ring tones etc. CPA advertisers pay out between 0.35 - $4.00 per single email submits to as much as to as high as $70 per long form filled out. In lay man terms, for each individual that submits their email, an advertiser is willing to pay the person who referred the individual between $0.35 - $4.00. Below is an example of a Cost per Action offer below;

The good thing about cost per action is that individuals who sign up for offers do not in anyway have to pay for anything whatsoever. No purchase needs to be made. All that is required is for the user to enter their personal information and a lead is generated. For each information entered and successfully submitted, you earn a lead commission.
What Are CPA Networks???
CPA networks are companies that act as middle men between advertisers (all those companies I mentioned earlier) and affiliate marketers (me and you). They do a similar thing that click bank does.
They host CPA offers on their networks and then have their affiliates to drive traffic to these CPA offers. The CPA networks make money by sharing the profit with affiliates. Simply put, a CPA network helps us to eliminate having to approach individual companies to promote offers for them. You only need to sign up with one single network to be able to promote numerous offers. For example, an advertiser (one of the companies) may decide to pay $5 for every lead generated on the network. The CPA network might in turn decide to pay affiliates $4.00 and keep $1.00 to them for doing the job of putting all advertisers on their networks. Once you are signed up to a network, you have the ability to search through various CPA offers by different advertisers.
How to Get Started:
To first of all get started, there are a few things to put in place. I will explain them in lay man terms so that you’ll understand it. Just read thru;
1. Set up a new blog if you don’t have one yet. You do not need a dotcom domain name to setup a blog. Simply go to www.blogger.com , www.wordpress.com , www.myblogsite.com , www.normblogs.com to sign up and create your own blog. Ensure you have at least 20 articles or more on this blog. If you need more articles, you can visit www.ezinearticles.com to view articles that you can post on your blog. If you don’t know how to setup your own blog, then you probably shouldn’t be reading this until you know how to. You require a blog to be able to complete the next step below. This is because during registration, your website will be requested.
2. Sign up with some CPA networks. I always recommend that you sign up for at least 3. This is because there are various offers on different networks and that alone can increase your return on Investment (ROI). Most of these CPA networks do not discriminate against Nigerians (some do actually) and you can sign up with your Nigerian Address. I have listed them below in order of ease to sign up on them;

I have sifted through the good ones and present you with a-g above. I must emphasize here that most times, networks will turn you down, or give you a ring to do an over the phone interview with you. The whole point is to ensure that only serious people who understand how the program works sign up as affiliates. Don’t be frustrated if your application is rejected. Simply try to apply again. When you sign up with this networks, make SURE you SELL THEM on the fact that you are dedicated to making tons of money using CPA with PAY PER CLICK (Google ad words) even when you are not going to because I’ll show you how to bypass ad words. Most CPA networks want you to promote their offers with Google Ad words since they are a market leader in the pay per click advertising; therefore you sell them on that. You need to tell them that you’ll send them tons of traffic (even if you don’t know how yet). The point is that, you’ll know how to do this very soon. This program is not for internet/computer novices!!!! I might sound harsh, but it’s the truth! One of the easiest networks to sign up with is www.netpartner.com once you are accepted to a network, you’ll be assigned an affiliate manager. The best thing is for you to ask your affiliate manager the best offers to promote and they’ll guide you. Then you can start promoting offers. Generally, there are offers that are fast moving. Dating offers, Email & Zip Submits as well as Ring tone offers are good ones to promote too. You can watch out for these on your CPA network
How to select an offer
Like I said earlier on, the best way to select an offer is for you to speak to your Affiliate Manager. Best of all, you need to test market demands for that offer before you promote it. It will be disastrous if for any reason, you promote an offer that you have not tested if there are demands for it yet.
How to Gauge Demand:
There are various ways to gauge demand for a particular offer. This could be done through the following means;
‘Google Trends’: visit www.google.com/trends to find out more about what people are searching for generally. Google Trends can be streamlined to search for what the majority of individuals in a particular location are searching for. Take for instance; Nigeria is number 1 on the list for Paid Surveys in 2009. In year 2008 it was Forex. This simply means that a lot of people were searching for those kinds of programs. An affiliate wise enough will promote CPA offers that relates to what they are searching for.
‘Google Insights’: visit http://www.google.com/insights/search/ to have more insight into demands for programs. You can also gauge the demand for a particular CPA offer by looking at the search volume for keywords relevant to it using Google keyword research tool;

For example, if you wanted to promote a “Free Lingerie Gift Card” offer, you would type in the keyword “lingerie” to see how many people are searching for that targeted keyword every month.
You can see from the screenshot above that the average search volume for the keyword lingerie was over four million searches, so it appears that you can get a good amount of traffic in this market. If you find a CPA offer does not have much search volume for it’s most relevant keywords, than I don’t suggest that you promote that CPA offer.
Getting Your Affiliate URLs
Once you have decided on a CPA offer that you would like to promote, you will need to log into the CPA network and pull your affiliate link for that particular CPA offer. Every CPA campaign in your account is already configured with your affiliate ID, so you just need to pull the link from your account by selecting a CPA offer to promote. Make sure you test your affiliate link to make sure that it works. You don’t want to end up promoting a link that does not work, especially if you are paying for the traffic. All you have to do is insert your affiliate link in the location bar of your browser and it should take you to the landing page of the CPA offer. If you do not live in the country where the particular CPA offer is geared towards, you will not be able to view the landing page in most cases. WorldProxy202 allows you to view landing pages in the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom. They also have a toolbar that you can add to your browser so you can view landing pages by simply inserting your affiliate URL into the toolbar field.
How to Promote
Now that you have your know how to get your affiliate link, its time to learn how to promote it. There are various ways of promoting your affiliate links and I’ll share two methods on this report.
a. Pay per Click Advertising
b. Article Marketing; The first option requires advertising with your cash. You’ll be advertising CPA offers using various Pay per Click Search Engines like Google Ad words, MSN ad center and yahoo search marketing. The second option is very good when if you are dead broke and do not have cash to start. With Article marketing, you’ll be able to promote offers using articles on popular websites and make a lifetime income.
To advertise your CPA affiliate links, simply sign up for Google ad words. Visit www.google.com/adwords .
Remember, you need a credit card for this process. If you do not have a credit/master card, you can simply buy one from www.graphcard.com or www.epaymonster.com to use. For a long term cost effective method, its better to get a MasterCard/visa card account from either GTB or Intercontinental bank plc here in Nigeria. Simply visit any of these bank branches and inquire on how to open one easily. You'll learn about a simple, 10-minute process that anyone can use to setup a fully functional Google Ad Words account and start driving traffic to their website almost immediately. Before you get into the more advanced strategies, you need to build a very strong foundation and make sure you understand the basics. The stronger your foundation, the more earning potential you'll have for the future, so pay close attention to every detail I'm about to teach here. Let's do a quick example...
We'll pretend that we sell. I am going to show you exactly how to build a campaign for that type of CPA offers, starting with some sensible market research. PPC advertising is very competitive for a reason for any high-value product/service; PPC is a cheap and effective way to get your name in front of the people looking for products just like yours. With all the competition there's just one big problem: If you jump in blind, the sharks will eat you alive. You must first dig up the details on your market and your competition, and that means knowing:
1. Which keywords are getting the most traffic?
2. What are the top bid prices for those keywords?
3. Which keywords are being ignored and why
4. How many competitors you will have
Step 1 Setting up your Ad Words account
Go to the Google Ad words Homepage ( http://adwords.google.com/select/) and click on the “Click to Begin” Button to get started.
The next screen will give you an option between two types of accounts, Starter and Standard. Since we're going to be going deep inside Ad Words, there's no need to go for a Starter account select "Standard" and then click on "Continue".
On the next screen, you choose the languages you want to target. So if you were in Germany and wanted to target German-speaking Google users, you would select German. Google also let's you target specific countries, specific regions and cities or even a specified geographic location (such as a 20-mile radius around a certain street address, for example).
countries I wanted to market to in this case, since we are generating leads for companies, we will restrict our target market to US and Canada (a good thing, because this where the target visitors for many of the CPA offers resides as well).
If you ask me, I'd recommend sticking with "country-level" targeting for now the other two options are a bit more advanced, and I personally never use them. Might try them some day duo. When you have your account signed up, and done then we’ll need to set up our campaign. Setting up our campaign requires us to choose relevant keywords to our campaign. Let’s take for instance, if we are signed up for an offer on a Home Theatre System. The offer could be for getting leads for free Home Theatre System. It only requires the individuals to complete their name, address and zip codes, they have a chance of getting a report on a home theatre system….you get paid. YES YOU GET PAID!!! The ad campaign will be as follows:
Bid Price Check
Most people will tell you to go to the Yahoo Bid Tool and see their numbers to get an idea of what the top bids are. It's a good idea, but why not go to Google instead and use the tools they have provided to us with inside the Google Ad Words account? This way we only get to see numbers for Google Ad Words (where we will be bidding), and not some other PPC engine. You've already signed up for a Google Ad Words account in the last chapter; it's time to put it to use. Login to your (http://www.adwords.com/select).
Within your account, go to Tools > Traffic Estimator (or just visit the link below) to launch Google Ad Words' traffic and bid cost estimation tool.

Enter your keywords as above in the first box. These keywords will be the ones you copied off into a text file in the previous step. Next select the amount that you're willing to pay, as well as your daily budget. Since we want to get the maximum number of clicks to our website, we will enter an unreachable budget amount of $500. In that case Google will keep displaying our ad, because our budget will never be reached in 1 day... given the keyword(s) we've selected. Language and location targeting will be set to your default account values, so you can leave them as they are. Enter countries that you want to target here; I've selected US and Canada. When you're done, click on 'Continue' and you'll be taken to the next page with the Traffic Estimator's results.
This screen above is very helpful because it will give you a good estimate as to how much the top Ad words bidders are paying "per click" for each of the keywords you entered. Also, you'll be able to see roughly how many clicks you can expect to get "per day" if you were in a certain ad position in Google. And finally, you'll be able to see roughly how much you could expect to pay "per day" for each of the keywords. These are some VERY helpful numbers. At first glance, this seems a very expensive niche to get in. With most of the keyword phrases costing over $2.00a click to be in one of the top 3 Ad words positions. Therefore, always look for keywords that guarantee you really low bids. Let’s take for instance, if you are going for the CPA offers that only requires just one information (like the zip code or email address) which pays $2 max, then you should be looking for keywords that requires bids of $0.30 or less. I guess my analytics tames off. To appear on the 1st-3rd ad for high cost keywords, you could sign up for offers like (the city financials we stated earlier) that pays you as much as $60 for each completed offers.
You'll also notice that most clicks go to a few keywords these are the ones you will be shaping your ad groups around. Adwords is all a numbers game. No your metrics (how much a customer is worth to you) and you'll be a step ahead of the competition. Now that we know that this niche can deliver, let's look at how we can create focused keyword lists around this topic. Once you've put together this list, go to the Keyword Selector tool and enter the into the search box - that is, enter 'wireless home theatre system' in the search box this time, and press the arrow to generate a new keyword list. What are we doing here?
The best strategy to choose keywords here is to start off with your parent term, pick up the top terms from its list, and then 'drill down' to find more keywords for terms. For example, with home theatre system as our parent term, we see in the screenshot above that we have lots of targeted keywords for that term. You also see that terms like home theatre sound system, wireless home theatres and home theatres system design are from the parent keyword and are subtopics that could be used to create more Focused keyword lists. Not only that, they are also getting quite a number of searches themselves, so it's worth targeting that traffic specifically (as opposed to running general ads). So for each term that is a "subtopic" (you have to use your judgement here) and has a lot of searches, you should run it again through the Keyword Selector tool and create a list for that term as well. For each subtopic, create separate lists. By the way, you can keep these lists in simple text Files – no need for fancy spreadsheets or anything like that - you don't that yet. At the end of this process you will probably have around 100-200 strong keywords on 4-5 Sub topics (and 1 parent topic). That's a good number to start with.
Congratulations now you're ready to write ads and get the ball rolling.
Writing Your Ads
One of the best things you can do to really kick butt with Ad Words is to understand that managing your PPC campaign is a step by step process which each step designed to accomplish a specific objective, and with all steps linked, leading your prospect from the start (where they search for the key terms you're bidding on) to the end (where they 'convert' either into buyers or leads or subscribers). Writing ads, then, is just one step of this process. But before we dive into the specifics, want to discuss something that is at the heart of any successful Google Ad Words campaign: If you remember from the previous chapter on keyword research, you will remember that it is absolutely critical that you break down your main keyword lists into smaller lists that are focused around subtopics. If your ads are not targeted to your keywords (i.e. a general purpose ad on insurance showing up for someone who is searching for car insurance) they might not click on your ads. Worse, if your CPA link does not offer a particular type of goodies (you are targeting custom home theatre systems when you don't offer any customisation), all those clicks will be wasted.
Let’s take a minute to explain what we’ve done here. Our main search phrase is also our headline, whenever possible, follow this example and put your main keywords in the headline. The first line is a benefit in this case for people who are looking for free reports on home theatre systems or are willing to get one for free. Getting it by just filling a form you are advertising is enough to make them sign up. The second line is our free report available for immediate download (Remember, this is your CPA offer Goodies). Your feature will be a specific offering that matches your previously stated benefit most closely. The last two lines are the URLs first url will be the one displayed this must resolve to an actual web address. The second line is the actual url ( Your Unique link from the CPA offers, which in this case is on Theatre Systems, you signed up for) where the prospect will be redirected to that is, it must contain the address of your landing page. And your ad is written! Following this template, you can put together ads in as little as 4 minutes (like I did right now). Click on "Continue", and Google Ad Words will do an automated check on your ad text and the provided urls to make sure that they follow their guidelines. Once that is complete, you will be taken to a screen where you have to enter your keywords.
Bidding on Keywords:
Remember, this is what makes your campaign important. Therefore, enter your keywords:
Did you notice that our keywords are related to what our CPA offer is all about. When people search Google for the keywords chosen here, then our Google ads can show. This gives our CPA Home Theatre system offer a public show, thereby encouraging more prospective leads. You'll notice that I've enclosed my keywords in quotes as well as brackets. Basically, Ad Words uses three types of phrase matches to match your ads with the terms being searched at the time broad match (no quotes or brackets), phrase match (quotes) and exact match (square brackets). This is the default option. When you include keyword phrases such as tennis shoes in your keyword list, your ads will appear when users search for tennis and shoes, in any order and possibly along with other terms like: new tennis shoes, men’s shoes for tennis, and so on... Broad matches are often less targeted than exact or phrase matches. Your ad appears when users search on the exact phrase also when their search contains additional terms, as long as the keyword phrase is in. A phrase match for "tennis shoes" would display your ad if users search on: red tennis shoes, new tennis shoes, but not for: shoes for tennis the search query must match your keyword. This means [tennis shoes] will only match a user request for: tennis shoes and not for: red tennis shoes, even though the second query contains your keyword. Once we've entered the keywords, we now have to choose our bid amounts. You'll see a screen as shown below:
First you'll select how you'll pay for Ad Words. Based on your IP address, Google automatically determines your local currency and sets that as the default value, but you should change it to US dollars. That makes it a lot easier to manage your account as you'll find that almost everyone discusses bid prices in dollars (especially all other guides on Ad Words). This setting cannot be changed once your account is activated. After this, you set your. This is the maximum amount you're willing to spend throughout the day (divide your monthly budget by 30 for an easy way to reach this number). For our example, I want to get maximum exposure here as well as test the ads quickly (so I can refine them based on results), so I'll set this to $100 (for big campaigns and especially for high CPC terms, you might have to set this much higher).
Note: If you're just beginning, you can set your daily bid amount to $5/day if you want and Google will just stop displaying your ad after your daily limit has been reached.
Next, you set the (CPC) for your keywords. Ideally, you should set the CPC for your main keywords individually, but for now (and for the beginning part of your campaigns) an overall CPC will do just fine. Since we already know from our keyword research that we can get top position for our ads by staying within $5, I'll be conservative and bid $1.00 per click. This will allow me to get a good position and stay within budget our budget after this; you get traffic / clicks / position estimates based on your settings. It gives you an approximation of how many clicks (and what average position) you will get for each entered keyword (based on your max CPC and daily budget).
Pushing the start Button:
You'll be asked to review your account (what you've entered so far).
The page simply lists all the information that you've input, including your ad, selected keywords and your max CPC/ daily budget as well. Scroll down; make sure you haven't made any errors (you can fix them by clicking on the 'Edit' button next to each field), and then click on "Continue". The next page will ask you if you have a Google Account. Depending on your subsequent answers, it will either ask you to create one, or ask you to enter your Account login info. I'd recommend that you create a separate account for Ad Words (for security purposes), but in this example we're going to assume that you already have a Google account and will use that instead. Once you've passed this step (and confirmed your account), Google will send you a confirmation email to the email address you've entered. Open the email, click the link back to Google, and then enter your credit card or payment information to officially open the account. And that's about it. Once you've entered your payment information, your ads will start showing almost immediately. The more your ad exposure, the more you have people signing up for your offers, The more you make money. It’s as simple as this!!!
Method 2: How to start without having a Dime in your pocket
Whatsoever.
You can start this even if you are broke and without a dime. Here it goes….
HOW IT WORKS
These article sites generate large amounts of traffic. People will see your article and if you write an interesting title they will want to read the article. When you have pointed out the benefits of the product you are describing some of them will want more information on the product and click on your link. You will get credited with introducing that prospect to the site and you will be paid a commission if the prospect decides to buy the product or use the services of the site. These commissions vary greatly depending on what the product is that you are promoting, but they start at under $10 and go up into the hundreds of dollars per sale.
The remainder of this report expands on this concept in detail and there’s a few more details in there too, but if you want to get a quick start and get earning in the shortest possible time, the next section has a “Quick Start Guide” to get you off and running. OK so you’re in a hurry to make money! Here’s how to get off and running and start making your first pay checks.
Step 1
Go to any of the offers on the CPA network you’ve signed up for. Get the affiliate link
Step 2
Read the lead affiliate page and find out all about the gift/free giveaways. Make a list of all the benefits that it has, i.e. all the ways that it can solve the problem or improve the user’s life.
Step 3
Now write a short article of between 350 – 500 words based around the benefits that the product/free gift has. This is a very powerful step and should not be underestimated. This small section alone is the true “secret” of how you will make money using this system.
Hardly anyone is writing articles this way so yours will get far more attention as they will stand out from a lot of the dross at some of the article sites. For example, take these two styles of article which are on the same subject:
ARTICLE 1 – 10 Things That Stop Your Kids Getting a Good Night’s Sleep. This article simply lists ten different things like background noise, eating late at night, a troubled conscience etc. It’s not very inspiring and its main purpose is to be distributed and get links back to the author’s CPA affiliate links.
ARTICLE 2 – The Amazing Hidden Health Benefits of a Good Night’s Sleep for Your Kids. This article is entirely different in its approach. The purpose of the article is to help the reader and provide valuable information on the positive benefits of the reader’s kids getting a good night’s sleep. The article shows that the author has knowledge of the subject by giving good information away for free, and builds up confidence in the reader. This is important for the next step.
Step 5
Now that you have written your article, you need to write an “Author Resource Box” which will appear under your article. This is where you put your CPA affiliate link that you created in Step 2. The type of resource box that often works best is short and to the point. You can have 4 – 5 lines but don’t fill up the space with waffle that will only cause the reader to click away. Now here’s where you will win against most of the other articles out there. You have already given your reader valuable information and instilled a sense of trust in them. They want to know more about how they can help their children and you have just shown them that you have the answers. They will want to click your link to find out what else you have to offer.

You should check back again at all the sites which have article statistics on them and see how many times your article has been viewed and downloaded. (Not all article sites will have this information available). Experiment with different headlines for your articles and check the results on your stats page. This will give you an indication as to which headline worked better. Then you can use this information when you come to write your next articles.
